WA DOH Inquiry: Is Your Water Service Line Made of Lead?
Welcome, new neighbor
Check out our Residents page as well!
SVWA residents are allotted 8,000 gallons of water per month per lot. Vacant lot owners building a home are charged a one-time, water hook-up fee to cover connection costs and contribute to the overall system. The monthly water allocation is necessary in order to help protect our aquifer from seawater intrusion. It's good practice to monitor your water usage to help conserve and to avoid overage fees.
Water usage, water quality test results and SVWA meeting minutes are posted online and are accessible to residents only. Learn how to request access.

Sierra Vista's annual meeting in September offers an opportunity to get to know neighbors and learn about our water system. We also invite you to consider lending a hand on a neighborhood project. Talk to us at the meeting or contact us here with questions or to volunteer.
Septic system
If you're used to living in a community with sewer service, there are a few things to know about maintaining a septic system. Before you take possession of your home, find out from the previous owner what type of system the home has (gravity, pressure distribution, sand filter or mound) and when it was last pumped. Gravity septic systems should be inspected and pumped every 3 to 5 years. Other types of systems may need more frequent inspections. If you don't live in your home full-time and have a small household, you may be able to stretch the pumping schedule a bit. Ask your neighbors for recommendations on septic providers. In addition to your septic tanks, your system includes a drain field that needs to be protected from damage and water runoff from your roof, driveway and other surfaces. Never cover your drain field with parked vehicles, concrete, plastic or other materials. Grass is best and tends to grow greener over septic lines, which can help identify their location. The end of each line is accessed by a green cap. Keep caps clear of grass and check inside periodically to remove soil that may have been deposited by gophers. Power outages
Windstorms are a common occurrence in the fall and winter. When widespread storm damage affects our island and the mainland, it may take up to several days before crews are able to clear downed trees and restore service on Camano Island. It's best to plan ahead. Have food, critical medical and other supplies on hand. Also consider installing a portable generator. Here are some tips. When the power is out, report an outage or check status on Snohomish PUD's website.
Water
Sierra Vista's four wells supply water to our residents' homes. Water is tested regularly for contaminants. During power outages, a propane generator turns on automatically to continue pumping water to residences.
Our water system was built in 1967 and has grown over time. Older homes in our development may have original water meters that can fail over time. If you notice a considerable difference in water pressure in your home, let us know.
